Looking back on my narrative... we work with the journalistic questions to get deeper into our work.
Who: Who are we talking about? Both the teacher and the student.
The teacher is an everyteacher, both frustrated and joyful with her
job. The student is blooming into adolescence, confused but finding
solace in the written word. It couldn't be written from the teacher
or the student individually, but together is what makes this story.
What: What is the topic about? The significance? The issues I want to
look at? External or internal conflict? The conflict is within the
teacher. She is (they are) tired and angry, and sometimes forgets
about the student even in the efforts to teach them. The topic is
reaching this student, if even on accident, to love- love writing,
reading, the words that came before and came from her. Or it is not-
through no fault of the teacher's until it is his fault.
Why should I care: Because I am trying to make
sense of what I am doing and where I have been. So what? Because
understanding is survival.
When, where: Every day in every classroom.
How: Because I lived it and will live it. Applying Pam's memorable
moment, my memorable moment, my frustration with the discussions so
far, and my experience as a student to make the connection of this
cycle, why it keeps happening. How can I fix it? Diligence –
never forgetting that education can be the freeing for
both the student and the teacher.
